Bayer MaterialScience is looking for a Summer Intern to work within our volunteer organization, Bayer Association for Science in the Communities (BASIC), in redesigning hands-on science experiments that are used in various school settings to encourage student interest in science.
The identified intern will link the science experiments to current Pennsylvania education requirements and common core standards, as well as, instruct BASIC volunteers on proper class/student interaction techniques. In addition, the intern will assist in a variety of hands-on activities that BASIC carries out in the summer with students in the Pittsburgh area and work with BASIC volunteers to improve the science outreach program.
The successful candidate must be a high performer who is interested in pursuing a career in Education or a Science related field who is eager to work with dynamic people and contribute to a changing environment.
Additionally the incumbent is required to have the following: • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor or Master of Education degree program with a specialization in the sciences; • Completion of at least their sophomore year; • Previous experience working with K - 12 student populations through classroom exposure, summer camp counseling, student teaching or other similar interactions. In addition, the selected candidate must: • Have the ability to establish effective relationships; • Possess excellent communication, listening, and team skills; • Have the ability to analyze and interpret information accurately; • Have good planning and organizational skills; • Have demonstrated experience in achieving results by working in a team environment; • Have demonstrated leadership skills through involvement in extracurricular or community activities; • Have demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures; • Have proficiency in computer software (Excel, Powerpoint, and Word).
