To support Covanta’s revenue growth objectives, we are seeking an Energy Originator to focus on energy sales to wholesale customers primarily located Northeast as well as the West and the South. Reporting to the Vice President – Energy, the Energy Originator will be based at our Corporate Office in in Morristown, NJ
The Energy Originator will be primarily responsible for originating power purchase/sale agreements with wholesale customers, developing the appropriate pricing structure, negotiating and executing contracts. The successful candidate will have an existing deep base of industry contacts at municipal power agencies and cooperatives as well as hands on experience with the electric power industry, pricing models, utility rates and tariffs.
Job Responsibilities include
Build a diverse customer base, including investor-owned utilities, municipalities, cooperatives, generators, non-utility retailers, power marketers and private equity companies.
Develop a deep understanding of the customer’s needs and insight as to how we can formulate arrangements to meet those needs.
Formulate structured products to meet customer needs. Combine these specific needs along with standard products and services to create bundled solutions for customers
Develop the appropriate pricing structure
Work with Legal, Credit, Operations and Regulatory staff as required, to develop terms and conditions in the contracts.
Negotiate and execute contracts
Manage and coordinate customer relationships.
Bachelor’s degree is required. MBA with strong financial and entrepreneurial orientation is preferred
Ten or more years of relevant career in the electric industry
Demonstrated computer/data management/modeling capabilities
Strong contacts/relations with municipalities, cooperatives, aggregators, load Serving entities, as well as electric utilities
Experience in both wholesale and retail markets
Demonstrated ability to close/implement transactions
Working knowledge of the PJM, NE and CA ISOs
Knowledge of electric rate structures/utility tariffs. Similar knowledge in gas is a plus
Knowledge regulations and compliance requirements in the electric industries
Ability to develop, structure and price short- and long-term power purchase agreements
Ability to respond to RFPs with high quality product/pricing/proposal
Excellent analytical skills including ability to create/manage sophisticated pricing models, analyze customer demand profiles, and determine risks and savings associated with each structure
Ability to think strategically, synthesize complex issues and develop innovative solutions
Ability to create and support business plans for pursing energy revenue growth at various markets
Team player with ability to coordinate with internal/external subject matter experts and different management levels
Communications, presentation and networking skills
Ability to travel as needed
