Regional Employee Relations Specialist

Position Summary:
This is a dedicated employee relations role with heavy focus on conflict resolution and investigative work. This Employee Relations Specialist will provide employee relations and related HR services for Field Team Members and Leadership in a specified region in order to ensure a professional, productive, and lawful workplace environment. Conduct investigations on internal complaints regarding risk issues. Interpret and enforce policies and practices while guiding management to support compliance initiatives. Provide strategic partnership to Operations and field management in dealing with workplace issues, conflict, and adverse employment decisions. Act as an advocate for Team Members in a manner that promotes trust, open communication, and problem resolution. Conduct investigations and participate in defense activities. Model and promote behavior consistent with Sterling’s Code of Conduct by demonstrating integrity, fairness, respect, and value for diversity in all actions and initiatives.
Essential Job Functions:
· Provide pro-active conflict resolution/mediation, employee relations guidance, & management coaching/direction while responding to high volume Team Member calls for assistance from all employment levels. Document all call activity, recommendations, and resolution.
· Conduct complex and confidential internal investigations including complaints of sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and other high-risk issues.
· Identify, develop, and recommend appropriate conclusive action based upon investigative findings including targeted training/coaching, improvement action plans, disciplinary action, and adverse employment actions.
· Escalate high-risk complaints to Field HR Manager for partnership on resolution as appropriate.
· Identify and monitor problem HR trends in designated region and partner with district and regional management to develop and implement solutions.
· Partner with key business groups including Operations, Loss Prevention, Payroll, Training, Customer Relations, and Benefits Administration in addressing/resolving specific employee relations issues.
· Manage field employment disputes and conflicts while balancing employee/employer relationship/rights.
· Enforce policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local laws.
· Maintain working knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws and employment legislation that impact designated region of accountability.
· Proactively develop and/or champion risk prevention education, contribute to instructional design of HR related training, and facilitate training to support ongoing development of field management, Management Career Development Schools, Zero Tolerance Program, and critical compliance initiatives.
· Engage Legal Department as appropriate to address non-routine employee situations.
· Complete special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Main Qualifications:
· 4+ years of HR generalist experience or related experience with an emphasis on employee relations and internal investigation. Multi-state, multi-site experience in the retail sector preferred.
· Working knowledge of employment laws and legislation.
· B.A. or B.S. HR Management degree, related degree, or equivalent experience.
· SPHR/PHR Certification preferred.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the demonstrated ability to maintain and manage highly confidential information.
· Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively interact with all levels of employment including Executive levels.
· Excellent client service and problem solving abilities.
· Conflict resolution or workplace mediation exposure/experience preferred.
· Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook
· Moderate national travel required.
